There have been some fantastic film westerns over the years, but my clear favourite has always been the 1992 hit Unforgiven. Gene Hackman + Morgan Freeman + Clint Eastwood = Pure Genius! Nothing has really challenged this film and it's nearly twenty years old. However, there could be a contender on the horizon.
The Coen Brothers (Raising Arizona, No Country For Old Men, Fargo) have directed a reworking of the 1969 John Wayne classic, True Grit, and judging by the trailer this film has the potential to be awesome. Obviously their remake of The Ladykillers wasn't that great, but I'm willing to give them another chance, afterall they have made some superb movies over the last twenty five years.
