Movie News: WHO'LL BE THE NEW SUPERMAN?

So we know that Christopher Nolan is going to relaunch the Superman franchise and Warner Bros are hoping they'll have as much success as they did when he revived the Batman series a few years ago.  Directing duties, however, go to Zack Snyder (300, Dawn of the Dead), so how much influence will Nolan have on the finished movie? Probably a fair bit I'd imagine, as everything he touches turns to gold and with the Harry Potter movie machine drawing to a close next year, Warner Bros need to fill those money making shoes.

The big question is though, who will play the man of steel?

It seems the current front runner is British actor, Matthew Goode (above), who has worked with Snyder previously on comic book adaption Watchmen.  At 6ft 2 inches he's got the height, but is he the right choice for the role?

As we know, Brandon Routh is the current man of steel and according to some reports, is still very much in the frame for the next film.  Personally, as much as I liked him in Superman Returns, if they're going to truly reboot this film franchise, they're going to have choose someone else to wear the tights.

Will Tom Welling ever get the chance to play Superman on the big screen? Probably not. He's just too synonymous with Smallville and although he does a great job in that show, I doubt it's the direction Nolan and Snyder are looking to go in. Whenever there are Superman casting rumours though, his name will always be in the mix.

It seems a lot of Superman fans like the idea of Matthew Bomer being considered for the part.  Bomer is currently starring in the US series' White Collar and Chuck. He's definitely an interesting choice and if you believe the rumours, it's not the first time his name has been in the mix to play the part.

There'll be plenty of other names cropping over the coming months, but a decision needs to be made fairly quickly, as the film goes into production in six months time.

Who do you think would be the right person to play Superman?

  1. Warner bros also have the first live action green lantern in the pipe line . But judging from the trailer they have put a comic stint on things, I think they have mist a trick here as it would have been great to see a more gritty lantern, wish Chris would work some of his magic on that.
