Trailer of the Week: HARRY POTTER and the DEATHLY HALLOWS

This is the final trailer for the next instalment of the Harry Potter series and it's fantastic.  You see some new characters, a bit more action and plenty more Voldermort.  The film is released on 19 November 2010, so you don't have too much longer to wait.

Movie News: WALL STREET: MONEY NEVER SLEEPS

When I first heard that 20th Century Fox was planning on doing a sequel to the iconic 80s hit movie Wall Street, I was worried. However, as soon as I found out it was going to be directed by Oliver Stone and star Michael Douglas (who won an oscar for his role in the original film), I breathed a sigh of relief.

The trailers so far have been alright, but didn't me get excited about seeing the film.  Now though, Fox Studios have sent over a new 30 second TV spot and although it's short, it's clear that this film could be really good.  Gordon Gekko is cool and seeing this character back on screen put a huge smile back on my face.  I just hope after his time behind bars he hasn't gone all soft.

Take a look at the TV spot by clicking on the link below.  The film is released here in the UK on 6 October 2010.

UK Top Ten: 17-19th September 2010

As predicted Resident Evil 4 wasn't able to hold on to the top spot for a second week, dropping almost 60% of its audience.  It was a big week for comedy though, as Will Ferrell is back to his best in The Other Guys, which has stormed to the top of the charts taking almost £2m.

M. Night Shyamalan hasn't had a decent hit for a while and he's hoping that his latest film (as producer) Devil, will see a return to form at the box office.  It's landed in second place with £800K, but it's too early to know how well it's going to do.

Trailer of the Week: PRIEST

Seems only fitting, with the Pope in town, that Priest starring Paul Bettany, Karl Urban and that guy that played Jim in Neighbours, is my selection for trailer of the week.  That being said, I'm not sure the Pope would be too pleased with the goings on that take place in this film. Oh well.

Yes, it does look a bit similar to Legion, but I'm hoping this is going to be a lot better...and that shouldn't be too hard!

Ignore the date on the poster, as we're not going to see this film until 2011, but they're making sure we get interested nice and early.  Some of the CGI does look a bit ropey, but I guess they do have a few months to get that all sorted out.

Movie News: Attack of the Aliens

It was the New York City International Film Festival  last month, which saw movies from all over the globe compete for the sought after awards.  One of the biggest success stories from the event was a short film, voiced and produced by young British actor Ben Macleod.  Attack of the Aliens managed to beat twelve other nominees to win the Best Animation award.

This is one of the first projects from Ben's production company Edge Haine Productions and is an incredible achievement for the young actor.  Together with his team, director/writer Elliott Ashton and Gaia Predassi, he will be touring the festivals over the next twelve months, hopefully collecting more awards along the way and attracting the attention of major movie studios.

I've been lucky enough to watch the full six minute film and it's a great piece of work from the fledgling company.  If this is what they can achieve with their first CGI feature, then expect to see a lot more from them over the coming years...and you heard it here first!

You can take a look at the trailer for the film, by clicking on the link below.

BONUS BIT:  Ben Macleod provided all the voices for the film.

UK Top Ten: 10-12th SEPTEMBER 2010

Who'd have thought that the Resident Evil film series would make it to number four, let alone make it to the top of the UK box office?  Well, it has and if the rumours are to be believed, they're starting to put together a fifth!

Disappointing results for some of the other new films this week though, including Drew Barrymore's Going the Distance and Gemma Arterton's Tamara Drew. Both films failed to make an impact and I think they'll be sliding down the charts next week.  However, Toy Story 3 has actually climbed back up to the number two spot and is showing no signs of slowing down.

Trailer of the Week: MEGAMIND

The first couple of trailers for Megamind weren't that great, but this latest one is much better, so much so in fact that it's my selection for trailer of the week.

Now that the Shrek series is complete, Dreamworks are hoping that their latest entry into the animation market will bring in just as much cash.  Megamind is a superhero movie starring the voice talents of Will Ferrell, Brad Pitt and Tina Fey. It's released on 3rd December 2010 and I have a feeling it's going to be a huge hit.

Take a look at the trailer by clicking the link below and see what you think.

UK Top Ten: 3-5th September 2010

It was a battle between comedy and horror over the weekend and it appears the majority of cinema-goers would rather be frightened, as The Last Exorcism came out on top. It took more than £1m over the three day period beating Dinner for Schmucks into second place.

Incredibly, Toy Story 3 is still raking in the cash, even though it's been out for seven weeks. Last week's number one film Grown Ups took a massive hit, down 56% from last week and dropping it to fourth place.

Movie News: LATEST HARRY POTTER PICS

We're only two months away from the release of the penultimate Harry Potter movie, Deathly Hallows Part 1.  To whet your appetite, here are some of the lastest pictures to be revealed and we get a glimpse of one of the new characters, Rufus Scrimgeour, played by our very own Bill Nighy.

Movie News: WARNER BROS NEW ANIMATION

With the massive success of film animations in the last year including Disney's Toy Story 3, Sony's Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs and 20th Century Fox's Fantastic Mr Fox, it's time for Warner Bros to 'step up to the plate' with their new movie, Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole.  The studio is no stranger to animated films, after their huge success in 2006 with Happy Feet. This time however, instead of penguins, it's owls that are taking centre stage and you can see from the character posters below, just how cute they're going to look. Well, apart from the scary one in the helmet.

Based on the successful series of books by Kathryn Lasky, this 3D film adaption is the debut animation from Zack Snyder (300, Watchmen) and stars the voice talents of Helen Mirren, Geoffrey Rush and Hugo Weaving.  It opens here in the UK on 22 October 2010 and in a couple of weeks I'll be running a fantastic competition for you to win one of five Legend of the Guardians Xbox 360 games.

Until then,  if you click on the link below you'll get a preview of what to expect from this new film:

Trailer of the Week: BURIED

After the last two weeks of sci-fi trailers I decided to give you a taste of this upcoming thriller starring Ryan Reynolds.

If you're claustrophobic, I'd advise you not to watch this movie trailer though.  I didn't think I had a problem with small spaces, but I was one step away from having a panic attack halfway through this. Surely, it's everyone's worst nightmare, waking up buried in a coffin!  The film is released on 29 September 2010 and early word is it's fantastic.

Take a look at the latest trailer and see what you think.

Movie News: RIHANNA'S MOVIE DEBUT - FIRST PICS

Souce: rihannadaily.com

Not content with being a worldwide singing superstar, Rihanna is making her feature film debut starring in Peter Berg's Battleships.  Not much has been released about the movie so far, so all I can tell you is that it's based on the Hasbro board game of the same name (seriously), it's costing an estimated $200m and it involves a Naval fleet defending Earth from an alien attack.

It won't be released until 2012, so in the meantime, here are the first pictures of Rihanna in her US Naval outfit for your viewing pleasure.

Fingers crossed it won't be long before we get a film version of 'Trivial Pursuit' and 'Buckaroo'.

Movie News: DR WHO??

Source: AITH

For those of you wondering what David Tennant was going to do after Dr Who, then all has been revealed.  Here's the first picture of him as Peter Vincent in Dreamworks' Fright Night remake, a comedy horror about a teenager who discovers his neighbours are vampires. What is it with vampires at the moment? Seriously, every other film seems to be about a flipping vampire!

Anyway, he joins Colin Farrell, Anton Yelchin (Star Trek) and Toni Collette (The Sixth Sense) who make up the main cast. However, you'll have to wait a while to see it, as it's not being released until autumn 2011.

Are you looking forward to seeing this film?

UK Top Ten: 27-29th AUGUST 2010

It's all change at the top of the UK box office this week, with two new releases pulling in the most money.  It was the Adam Sandler comedy Grown Ups that ended up in the number one position, however, with the massively under-rated Scott Pilgrim taking the number two spot bringing in just over £1.5m.

Also, check out the return of Avatar to the box office chart. This special edition has added another £600K to it's huge £92m UK box office total.
