Movie News: NEW BLADE RUNNER MOVIE?

There are rumours circulating around Hollywood that a new Blade Runner movie could be in the works.  As you may know, Ridley Scott is currently putting the finishing touches to Prometheus, his Alien prequel and so it wouldn't be too much of a stretch to believe he's keen on doing a similar thing with his 1982 sci-fi classic.

At this stage though nothing has been confirmed other than the film's original producers have asked Ridley if he'd like to come in and talk about the possibility of doing another one. He's apparently agreed to meet with them, but so far that's about it.  In Hollywood terms, this is a million miles away from getting a green light, but I guess the mere suggestion that Ridley might be interested, is enough to get everyone excited.

What do you guys think? Is it a good idea?

UK Top Ten: 12-14th AUGUST 2011

Despite some ropey looking effects, Rise of the Planet of the Apes has landed in the number one spot at the UK box office this week.  There has been good word of mouth surrounding this film, so it seems a good story  does beat an iffy CGI chimp!

Somehow, The Smurfs took the number two position. I'm blaming the school holidays and parents struggling to know what to do with their children, so packing them off to the cinema to watch stuff like this.  The Deathly Hallows is beginning to slow down, but still managed to make another £1.5m over the weekend, taking it's total to more than £66m!

Disappointing opening for J.J.Abrams Super 8 which has had a very positive critical response and yet failed to attract a massive audience.  Hopefully this will prove to be a slow burner.

Movie News: JACK BLACK'S BIRD WATCHING COMEDY?

It's true, when you think about 'comedy gold' ideas for a new film, bird watching probably isn't going to be top of the list. However, throw in Jack Black, Steve Martin and Owen Wilson and all of a sudden you may be onto something.

The is the first shot from The Big Year which sees three guys all trying to spot the rarest birds.  I'm not too sure how they're going to stretch that out to a ninety minute movie, but the fact the David Frankel (Devil Wears Prada) is in the director's chair, does suggest this is one film to keep an eye on.

Trailer of the Week: UNDERWORLD AWAKENINGS

It doesn't really matter what I think about the Underworld films, the fact is they make decent money, enough it seems to justify them making more.  So, if you're a big fan of the series you're going to love this, it's the first full trailer for Underworld: Awakenings

Kate Beckinsale returns as the hot, leather clad vampire, doing what she does best...looking hot...and looking hot whilst killing things!

Take a look at the trailer and let me know what you think.

Movie News: FIRST OFFICIAL SUPERMAN PIC!

So here it is, the first official picture of Henry Cavill as Superman.  Filming begins in the next couple of weeks and the current release date is Summer 2013, so there's a long time to wait until you can book your tickets at the local cinema.

I like the look of the costume and the fact they seemed to have dulled the colours down a bit. Unless the lighting director on this photo shoot was out at lunch, it looks as if they're going with a darker and more gritty feel, just like Christopher Nolan did with Batman a few years ago. Being a huge fan of the Superman film series,  I'm genuinely looking forward to seeing what Zack Snyder is going to do with it.

What do you guys think?
